The short version
Counting happens on your phone — your scan photos are never uploaded to count. We store your email, your subscription status, and only the photos you explicitly choose to share. We never sell your data.
Counting happens on your device
iCyclop counts pills and reads prescription labels entirely on your phone, using a model that runs on-device. Your scan photos are not uploaded to us to count them. Photos only leave your device in the specific cases described below, and you control each of them.
What we collect
- Account: your name and email when you create an account.
- Usage data, linked to your account: app version, device model, which counting model ran, and whether a scan used Rx Verification — never your photos.
- Training contributions: your ordinary scans never leave your device — on any plan, ever. If you correct a count, that corrected photo and your correction are shared with us to improve the model. Free accounts help improve the counter with the photos they submit, and free accounts can't turn it off. Pro accounts can turn it off under Settings › Improve the model.
- Misread reports: if you report that a label or bottle was read wrong, that photo and the text we read are sent to us — only when you tap to send the report, never automatically.
- Campaign photos: photos you choose to submit in response to an in-app request (a “campaign”).
- Audit photos (Pro): if you enable “Keep audit photos,” the label and bottle photos are stored with that scan so a count can be checked later — on your device.
- Billing: subscriptions are processed by Stripe; we never see or store your card details.
How we use it
To count and verify scans, operate your account and Pro subscription, improve our counting models, provide support, and keep the service secure. We do not sell your personal information and we do not use your photos for advertising.
Who we share it with
Only the third-party service providers that run iCyclop for us — such as Stripe for billing — under terms that limit their use of your data. We may disclose information if required by law. We do not sell your data.
Storage and retention
Your scan history is stored on your device and kept until you delete it. Photos you contribute for training or campaigns are retained to train and validate our models. You can delete your account at any time — in the app (Settings › Delete account) or from your account page on the website; photos already incorporated into training may persist in aggregated, non-identifying form.
Your choices
- On Pro, turn off training contributions under Settings › Improve the model. On the free plan this stays on — free accounts help improve the counter with the photos they submit. If a Pro account that turned it off moves back to free, contributions resume; the saved choice applies again if the account returns to Pro.
- Turn off “Keep audit photos” so no label or bottle photo is stored.
- Decline any campaign — submissions are always optional.
- Ask us for access to, correction of, or deletion of your data at any time — just email us.
Patient and client data
You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to capture and submit any photo that may contain prescription, patient, or client information, and for meeting your professional and privacy obligations (e.g., PIPEDA, Québec's Law 25, HIPAA, or local equivalents). Where such data must not leave your device, turn off “Keep audit photos,” and on Pro, turn off training contributions. On the free plan contributions can't be turned off — so don't submit count corrections, misread reports, or campaign photos that contain such data. Ordinary scans never leave your device on any plan.
Security
Data in transit is encrypted. Server-side data is reachable only through controlled, authenticated services. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.
Children
iCyclop is a professional tool and is not directed to anyone under 18.
Where data is processed
Our providers may process data in Canada and the United States. By using iCyclop you consent to this processing.
Changes
We may update this policy; material changes will be noted in the app and on this page. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.
